Long time no speak! I have been AWOL again due to life being difficult, spending a lot of time in and out of hospital, and trying to get myself on a better path with my failing health (I will be posting about this separately in the near future)... but I've decided that I need to get back into my writing, as frankly, I bloody miss it.

Today is all about lashes, as it's National Lash Day; and I'll be honest, I didn't even know this was a thing until last year... but who's judging?!

So I figured it would be a good time to show you my new favourite ever mascara, which has totally surpassed my previous favourite (Max Factor False Lash Effect) that was my go to for many years!

This mascara is EPIC, like literally... that's its name! But it truly is epic as it instantly transforms my eyes, and gives me long, thick, curled lashes in just one coat (more coats are allowed if you wanna go va-va-vooooom with your lashes); giving me a false lash look, without all the faff, and glue damage!

I mean just look at the difference:

It's 4D fiber infused, so none of this 3 step fiber faffing that I've had with previous fiber mascara products that usually put me off using them in the past, in favour of sticking with regular one step mascaras!

And to celebrate National Lash Day, there's up to 30% off full lash regimes* (growth serum, lash primer and 4D EPIC mascara) until Monday, saving you £18.30 - effectively giving you the primer or serum for FREE!!

Plus, you get 14 days to try it - and if you don't love it, you can return it for your money back. Can't say fairer than that, eh?!

Hurrah for mascara!
I’ve always loved having long nails; they’ve always grown strong and long for as long as I can remember. I actually gave up violin aged 9 after playing for just a year, because I was fed up of being told every week to cut my nails, and every week being told that the slither I had filed off wasn’t good enough and so I took up playing the flute instead. Even at that age, I knew my nails were more important to me than a violin. 😉

However, recently I’ve been going through a lot of stress and have noticed the toll it’s taking on them as they’ve been snapping quite low down, so for the first time in my life I’ve had to have them repaired with a few acrylic extensions. I took this opportunity to head to a new salon that I’d seen and been impressed with on Instagram because of the variety of nail colours and designs they showcased on there and these petrol-like, holographic nails are what I came out with, and I couldn’t be more pleased with them. Plus, I think Cobi, the nail technician there made the acrylic tips blend in perfectly with the shape of my natural nails, don’t you think? 😍

I also tried to get a video to show you how holographic they went under a
direct light, but my cat wanted in on the action, and she's cute so why
not. ;-)

As a female who wasn’t blessed with the ability to lose weight and be toned just by existing, I find myself constantly looking for ways to achieve this but without feeling like I might die of boredom at having to eat bland, tasteless food; or indeed feel like I’m missing out on lots of other delicious foods that I know I enjoy and crave deeply from the exact second that I make the decision to get back on the healthy eating wagon.

And, because I’m a vegetarian, I have always found myself relying perhaps a little too heavily on carbs also, to make a meal feel substantial, filling and obviously tasty. So knowing I needed to lower my carb reliance and increase protein to start seeing further results, I spent the last 4 years forcing myself to find ways to eat eggs so that I could actually enjoy them, which meant that they weren’t too eggy, both in taste and texture; as despite not being vegan, I didn’t eat eggs (unless in cake) for a very, very long time.

I just couldn’t get my head around what they were (let’s not even mention it now as I am still not at ease with it and I don’t want to undo my hard work over these years, ha) so my protein intake was less than impressive. I have now mastered the art of making both omelettes, and scrambled eggs by adding vegetables, cheese, and other flavourings that have enough other textures/tastes to make them actually quite enjoyable to me.

Success… I now have a healthy, low carb meal option that actually leaves me feeling full, and satiated. I still miss carb heavy food, but now look for ways to try and satisfy cravings for them without leaving myself feeling guilty that I’ve fallen off the wagon again. Obviously a treat is fine, but as a lifestyle change that is realistic, I need to enjoy the food I am eating and not just eating it because it’s healthy.

One massive craving for me that I really miss whilst trying to be healthy has to be pizza. I bloody love it! But it doesn’t love my waistline… it’s just not healthy, and that carb-heavy base makes me put on a stone just thinking about it (sympathy please). So how could I find a way to satisfy a regularly recurring craving for the gooey, pizza goodness? Well, with an omelette base, of course.

Luckily, I have been <strike>sneaky</strike> well informed, and researched enough to have found a ‘diet’ that might suit me as it allows me to eat cheese(!); and not only allows, but encourages (high fat, low carb – keto diet)… yep, I think I might have found ‘the one’ - diet wise, anyway.

And so I decided to do an eggsperiment (geddit? I’ll book my own taxi for that) to see if I could make this omelette taste anything like a passable pizza to me. And by goodness, I think I actually have! Obviously it’s never going to replace your favourite pizza from wherever, but it’s also not going to make you die from diet guilt, or have your buttons popping off your clothes by indulging in it.

Ingredients:

2-3 eggs (or more if you’re making for more than one person, or particularly hungry)
Chopped tomatoes/passata
Herbs (mixed, or fresh basil works)
Chopped onion
Cheese (hurrah, I used cheddar but any melty one that you fancy is all good)
Salt & Pepper to taste

Or whatever toppings you fancy, obviously. I just kept this one very simple, as I didn’t know if it would work or not.

Method:

I cooked the chopped onion in a small amount of oil (I used olive, but any is fine, just don’t use too much as you don’t want a greasy pizza sauce) until translucent, then added the tomatoes, herbs, and seasoning before cooking through so the flavours were developed enough. You could make this in advance and freeze it, or use it as a base for pasta sauce too. You could do this without the onion, and add them at the end, or not at all if you prefer.

Then, I decided to stick to just a plain omelette base as I knew there’d be less chance of it breaking. I whisked the eggs with salt and pepper, then cooked it both sides in a frying pan so that it was golden brown, and feeling fairly sturdy.

I then transferred my omelette to a foil lined tray and spooned enough ‘pizza sauce’ to cover it, sprinkled plenty of cheese over it (and any other ingredients you choose), and then put it under the grill until it was melted (this particular cheese didn't melt as well as I'd hoped, but still tasted good).

Then I ate it, obviously. I really, really enjoyed it too. So I actually do think I have found something I can eat and enjoy regularly that does satisfy that pizza craving I get, until such a day where I can have a real pizza as a treat.

Happy days. I can’t believe I’ve written so much about eggs though, ha.

In recent years there has been widespread reporting, and criticism of the use of excessive airbrushing on models within the film/TV, fashion and beauty world, and rightly so as I think it’s important for us ‘real people’ to know that the perfection that we are all faced with in magazines, on billboards and on TV isn’t real.

The standard of beauty that we’re being made to feel that we have to live up to isn’t even being achieved by the models in these advertising campaigns, as they’re so heavily edited to present this admittedly very beautiful, but wholly unrealistic picture in order to make us desire the products they’re promoting.

It’s important to remember that we’re not all failing in life by not walking around with 24/7 flawless skin, balanced, equal facial features, perfect abs, and large, symmetrical tits.

Yet so many of us feel that we’re not desirable, not pretty, not thin, and not perfect enough even to post a selfie on our own Facebook, or Instagram profiles without being judged and compared against the unrealistic standards set by these people.

This in turn has led to a huge increase of girls uploading photos of themselves that have had heavy filters and editing beforehand. The problem comes when people (girls, usually) edit pictures, and use filters to the point that they not only no longer resemble themselves, but some of them actually look like 2-dimensional cartoon characters.

I’ve seen, and heard so many people saying things like ‘she takes a good photo’, and ‘she looks nothing like her pictures’, even stating that on occasions, people have even failed to recognise the person in real life from their online photographs due to flattering angles, and excessive editing and filter use... with some girls even being called catfish for their 'deceptive' photography practices.

I think it’s sad to see this, as for me a photograph is not only for now, but also to look back on when I get older, and remember what I actually looked like – despite me being constantly told that I actually look a lot better in real life, as I think my face somehow panics when in front of a camera, even if it’s just me, taking a selfie. I’d rather know I probably looked better in real life than in the picture, than have a shit load of hugely edited, filtered to fuckery false images that look nothing like me at all.

Hence why I personally don’t bother with these heavy editing techniques. Well, that and because I can’t be bothered as it would take too much time that I just don’t have… plus I am absolutely rubbish at editing, as I’ve just found out whilst trying to edit pictures of myself for this article; instead opting to use a fully blur tool for one image (idiot-proof, as I obviously wanted it to look fake), and an app to make another image appear more cartoon-like, as I obviously couldn’t use the photographic examples that prompted me to write this. ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for filters occasionally as a laugh – like the silly Snapchat filters, but I keep seeing girls who look more like a cartoon than a human in every single picture they seem to upload and it just makes me feel a little sad that these girls can’t just be happy to be photographed as they actually are, and know that imperfections are what make us unique.

For me, I’m happy to use a little make-up, and hope for the best where my pictures are concerned… oh, and probably about 44 gigabytes of data for the million selfies that I hated before I took one that I thought was acceptable, ha.

What are your thoughts? Do you see this happening a lot? Do you yourself heavily edit your pictures? x
A Little Explanation For My Relative Silence!

So you’ll probably all have noticed that I haven’t been around for a
while; or perhaps you hadn’t noticed but now I come to mention it… but
I’m going to indulge myself and pretend that you had all most definitely
noticed my absence, even if you hadn’t missed my ramblings.

There’s
been a lot going on in my life, and in turn I felt hat these things had
largely killed off my writing mojo, meaning that whenever I even tried
to put fingers to keyboard (since pen to paper doesn’t really happen
these days), I doubted that I was writing anything worth reading… and
more to the point, that you guys would actually enjoy reading too.

So I'm going to give you an idea of what's been going on that stunted my writing abilities; although I’m
not going to go into everything in detail, as I’d be writing for days,
and you’d be reading for an equally long time too.

Over
the last few years, I’ve obviously been through the breakup of my long
term relationship (I wrote about that previously), which I guess is
where my writing started to suffer; but then adding things like house
moves, being messed around by people I’ve grown to care about who ended
up letting me down, and a sexual assault that happened a couple of years
ago have added to the 'problem'... and those things in themselves would usually suffice as an explanation.

However,
I guess the thing that has affected my desire, and ability to write the
most, is the unexpected, sudden and traumatic death of my mum; the most
important person in my life.

My mum was a beautiful,
amazing, caring, strong, inspiring and unintentionally hilarious woman,
and I adored her with every part of my being... she was my everything;
and so losing her at the relatively young age of 69 when she had not had
any immediately life threatening illnesses, or diseases leading up to
her death was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to go through,
and that’s really saying something as I’ve been through a lot of
horrific experiences in my life.

I’ve always found it
enjoyable to write, and have always been able to inject humour and light-hearted, jokey comments in anything I produce… and so whilst I’ve been
wondering what the point in most things is, I found it hard to muster up
the fun and excitement to write about anything I’d usually write about
on here.

That being said, I still have the passion,
excitement and love for everything involved, which is why I’m sat here
in bed, at 2.45am writing this. Inspiration struck, and I thought it
would be a good way to find my mojo if I wrote about something I have
massively felt in my heart, which is what allowed me to write my mum’s
eulogy whilst I was still reeling from losing her; her eulogy is the
last thing I actually managed to write – and I’m going to include that
below, because I think it allows you to learn just a very small amount
about why she meant so much to me.

I think writing
from the heart like this feels easier as it doesn’t really require me to
find and inject the fun factor, or humour that I usually include, but
didn’t seem to be able to produce at any point of previous attempts to
write. It’s also allowed me the chance to explain where I’ve been, so
it’s a 2 birds 1 stone kinda thing for me. So, hopefully this is the
start of my mojo, and inspiration returning.

P.S, I've changed. :-) Went blonde, got fillers and that. More about that very soon. X

Mum’s Eulogy

The collage I made to be framed for her funeral.

“Usually,
words are my thing… although seemingly not when it comes to this;
writing words that mean so much to me, my mum. who I miss so much
already. This is honestly the last thing I thought I’d have to write; at
least so soon, and so suddenly… which also makes it the hardest thing
I’ve ever had to find the words for.

My mum
was the most amazing person I have ever known. She wasn’t perfect, for
instance with her seemingly selective hearing, which often made for
amusing attempts at her trying to convince me that she had actually
listened to what I had said, but without being able to reply, nor repeat
back to me what I had said… but she wasn’t far off being perfect in my
eyes.

Her sense of humour was lavatorial,
and that’s putting it politely. Even on her last day with us, she was
able to enjoy a laugh and joke, and at her own expense too. Although
telling her a joke wasn’t always as straight forward as you might
expect; from telling jokes and getting the polite acknowledgement laugh,
followed a few minutes later by the belly laugh, signalling the moment
that she actually understood, and ‘got’ the joke, to explaining the joke
and her still not getting it.
It was like the ongoing
onomatopoeia joke that resurfaced every Christmas without fail., as I
could not get her to understand what onomatopoeia meant, despite many
attempts to explain it simply – in fact the only time she proclaimed to
maybe know what it meant, she told me it was ‘a word that sounds like
bronchitis’. She was convinced that if she found a dictionary from the
50’s, ‘that word would not be in it’ and only truly believed me that it
was a real word when Sally from Coronation Street said it in an episode
last year.

We had many, many laughs at my mum’s expense
over the years, something she was completely fine about, luckily. Some
of my favourites include telling her that they’d taken gullible out of
the dictionary, to which she was absolutely disgusted, exclaiming ‘well
that’s just stupid, how can they take a word and say it doesn’t mean
anything any more?!’ and even when I tried to explain it was a joke, by
asking her what gullible meant, she replied ‘well nothing any more, not
now they’ve taken it out of the dictionary’, and in a similar way when I
told her that if you said gullible really slowly, it sounded like you
were saying orange. I had her repeating it for 5 or 10 minutes,
desperately trying to get it to sound like orange and not even clicking
on when I kept asking her what gullible meant – her reply being ‘that
you’ll believe anything’ as she’d accepted that it was still in the
dictionary after the previous joke, but that was swiftly followed ‘but I
just can’t get it to sound like orange’.

We loved
Christmas with mum, there was never a dull moment; be that from her
bursting out in song at the only part of each song she actually knew, or
thought she knew the words to, bragging about being able to take her
tablets with a glass of Baileys and then promptly throwing them back up…
or her joining in with some reindeer racing, having picked the computer
chair, complete with wheels to sit on at the dining table, before
falling off it – cue an awkward silence from us all, waiting to see if
she was ok, before bursting out laughing after she herself did.

And
the fact that you could actually tell mum exactly what you’d got her
for Christmas, even on Christmas Eve, and it would still be a surprise
to her when she actually opened them. I’m still not sure if that was her
memory failing, or the selective hearing at work though.

In
recent years, whilst in possession of a smart phone, she discovered
YouTube and funny animal videos, often finding herself stuck for hours
wetting herself (probably quite literally) laughing at them. I
introduced her to the world of Facebook, which she never truly used (or
knew how to), or even understood, but could work her way around enough
to see the plethora of animal videos I shared to her wall. I loved her
watching them whilst she was with me, seeing her laugh so much, and
hearing that wicked, dirty laugh of hers was half of the enjoyment for
me.

Her other favourite pastime on her phone was
googling line dancing steps. I remember her first few Google searches
were so very polite, asking ‘could you tell me the steps to
<whichever dance it was> please’. She spent much of her life
suffering with arthritis, yet even when she could barely walk, she’d
still go off line dancing, even if she could only supervise and direct
people how to do the correct steps.

I remember giving
her a computer, so she could do some card making on it, and the only
time I believe she ever tried to use it, she told me it was broken. So I
went to have a look at it, turned it on and there was nothing at all
wrong with it. She asked what I’d done, I told her I’d switched it on
and then asked what she had done. She had only switched the screen on.
When I asked what she thought that big box was, her reply was ‘I don’t
know, just a box’ - she was very special, needs.

She
loved charity shop shopping, snapping up all the clothes that took her
fancy, despite the fact that she only really got dressed 2, or maybe 3
times a week. She loved owning nice things, to the point that they’d get
put into a ‘safe place’ and promptly forgotten about, or saved for
best… but there was never quite a ‘best’ enough time for her to make use
of most of them.

She was a total magpie, always
weighed down in her favourite jewellery in a multitude of colours and
styles. In fact, she wore earrings to the point that you could see
through the bottom piercing, and happily accepted me taking the micky
out of her ‘baggy ears’.

She was a very independent
lady, and didn’t really like a fuss… which unfortunately is partly why
we are all meeting here like this today. She lived life to the fullest
of her capabilities, never really complained, and was surrounded by
people who adored her; so whilst we all feel her life has been cut too
short, I’m sure she’d have chosen this life than a longer, but less
fulfilled one.

I just can’t believe I’m never going to
see, speak to or hear her again. You were my absolute world, mum. I love
you so much, always will… and I will never forget you.

If love could have saved her, she would have lived forever.”

This is the first thing you need to do when considering a purchase,
as if you don't find the best price for your item then you're already
losing out on precious pennies to spend elsewhere (or save in your bank,
but primarily for me, it's to spend elsewhere). I tend to visit sites
that I think will have the item I'm looking for to find prices out
first, and
then find the cheapest among them.

I also visit discount sites such as allbeauty.com
and Fragrancedirect to see if they stock the product I'm looking for -
for beauty related items, obviously. I also use Google searches and the
Google Shopping page to find and compare the price on various sites.
You'd be surprised how much you can save, just by taking the time to do
this.

Cashback Sites!

For many years, I have been using cashback sites whenever I shop
online and it has saved/made me more money than you'd think. For
example, I have used TopCashback* since November 2008 and in total, I have earned £1,861.39p
on purchases I have made and things I have signed up to (such as
switching gas/electric, Sky TV and such like), which is pretty good
considering it has cost me nothing and taken very little time (I went through a year or so of forgetting to use it after my break up too).

Before I used TopCashBack, I used Quidco* and in the 3 years I used it, I earned £986.52p
- plus £15 that I paid to Quidco as they charge £5 per year from any
earnings you make - if you earn nothing, you pay nothing! I still do use
Quidco occasionally as they sometimes have better rates or offers, but TopCashBack is my main one these days as it is
completely free (unless you upgrade to a plus member).

Using a cashback site doesn't affect
the price of the goods your buying, or any quote you're being given, nor
does it affect your statutory rights - it literally is just an added
bonus.

So, if you bought from Debenhams, you'd get 3.03% cashback from your
final checkout price (minus VAT and any delivery charges) just for
clicking to go to the Debenhams site through TopCashBack (you click the
orange button shown in the image above), it's so simple. It does add a
small extra step into what you're doing, but literally does only take a
moment to do it and you've already seen how it can build up to quite a
large sum of money.

Sometimes cashback is offered for free things,
like surveys, sign ups to sites, free trials and suchlike - these things will
take time to do, but are useful to know about if you have a lot of
spare time and fancy earning small amounts of money that could mount up
into a larger sum.

Other cashback possibilities that you should look out for are
magazine sites that pay you a set amount (say £4) for a subscription as
quite often the site has 3 for £1/3 for £3 (and similar) trial offers that can
also qualify for cashback too; so you'd basically be being paid £3/£1 (for
example) to try 3 issues of a magazine. Some deals match however much
you spend, so you could pay £1 to trial a magazine and be paid that
much back, so you'd effectively be getting a free trial.

If
you want to do more than one magazine on this offer, do them one by one
as you should be paid cashback for each purchase. These are gradually
being picked up on and some terms changed, so please do read the
information before committing to your purchase - and don't forget to
cancel the Direct Debit once you've paid the trial subscription,
otherwise they will continue the subscription and take the full amount

The only 'con' I can see for using a cashback site is that sometimes
your money/purchase doesn't track and you can 'lose out' on a small
amount of cashback. You can appeal this, but it's not guaranteed that
you'll get it - although mostly you do, especially if you can prove you
went through the cashback site (by matching up a date and time to one of
your outgoing clicks for the merchant in the appeal section) and it
helps to keep order confirmations etc.

It's such a
small downside though, and as long as you think of cashback as a bonus,
rather than a given (especially if you're relying on it to take the cost
of purchasing something down to an amount you can afford, which is not
advisable), you'll be over the moon with it, like I have been.

Discount Codes!

Discount codes are another way of saving money when shopping online
that can be used in conjunction with cashback sites for most merchants
(some say in their terms that orders made using discount codes will
automatically get cashback declined, you then just need to work out
which one will save you the most money, the code or the cashback - it's
usually the code), and are used when checking out your shopping online!

You can find discount codes on the merchant page of cashback sites, on sites like HotUKDeals
(just don't click their links if you want the cashback as they will
pocket it if you complete your purchase via their link - if you do
happen to click their link, just clear your cookies for the site you're
buying from and start again - this will empty any cart contents and log
you out, if you do this, and you will need to go through your chosen
cashback site again), from the cashback websites above, and MoneySavingExpert
(also very good for general money saving information and advice) and
even on the Facebook and Twitter pages for the retailer that you're
intending to buy from.

I do all this, each time I'm about
to spend money to maximise the amount of money I can save in any given
transaction - in fact, it feels weird on the rare occasions that I can't
find any cashback or codes.

Have you ever used cashback sites and discount codes? If not, will you be starting?
Apologies in advance that this post isn't necessarily in keeping with the usual style of posting that I do, but it’s very much in keeping with my own morals and beliefs, and so with that being said, I hope that you don’t mind me posting this up.

With what seems like the entire country talking about the imminent, potential lifting of the fox hunting ban, I thought I’d put my 2p in; and also post some links that may be of use to those of you who agree with me and want to try to do something about it.

Personally, I was very happy when fox hunting was originally banned in 2004. The needless (in my opinion) suffering of innocent animals from this blood ‘sport’ has never sat well with me, as an animal lover (and vegetarian) and so it was nice to see that for once, animal welfare was being put above the desires of humans who participated in, or supported it.

I understand that to some, foxes may be a bit of a nuisance or inconvenience but the fact is humans encroach on their natural habitat by building houses, roads and suchlike... and then complain that these animals are sometimes forced to come into what we deem as 'our territory' possibly hungry, and looking for food (that is possibly also lacking due to the lack of natural prey due to humans) or just passing through it perhaps doing some damage to property/land. I don't think that is a valid reason to end the life of an innocent animal.

I’ve also heard the argument that young children in city or suburban gardens may be in danger if a hungry fox enters the territory. My counterargument was that if a child was too young, or mentally incapable of dealing with a fox (be that coming inside, or scaring it off), or indeed any other dangers then it should not be left unsupervised in a garden in the first place. And, if my friend’s cat, Tig can scare away a fox by just pouncing and running at it (see the video below, and photos all courtesy of my Tom from Noonix and his girlfriend, and Tigs' ‘mum’ Karenza), that a supervising adult should be able to either scare the fox off, or remove the child from the garden/area in time so that no harm was done.

I’m not entirely sure why some people think that humans have the right to end the life of an animal, purely because it's potentially an inconvenience to them! Do all these people who are pro fox/animal killing for these kinds of reasons want these animals to be fully extinct? Because unless they were extinct, there is always the possibility that one may find its way into your garden/onto your land. Extinction of a species is never an option in my opinion.

IF, and this is a big ‘if’ fox numbers need controlling, then this should be done in a quick, humane way. I also saw somebody stating ‘Fox lovers will still protest irrespective of how control is achieved!’ on my own Facebook. That's like saying all meat eaters don't give a shit about how their meat is treated and killed, and I'm pretty sure most people who eat meat, would not like to think of animals suffering in the process. If there's a massive problem with foxes in an area, then kill them quickly and humanely; it doesn’t need to be a ‘fun’ sport, as this to me makes it less of a necessary evil being done for the greater good (of humans)... and this is coming from an animal/fox lover.

If you want to try to help maintain the ban, you need to act quickly (as this could be happening this week with the free vote going ahead THIS WEDNESDAY!!) by emailing your MP and asking them to vote against the lifticng of the ban (see how to contact your local MP here) and/or signing the petition that Change.org have set up here.

Also, please share this post to get it seen by as many people as possible.

If you’re pro fox hunting, please don’t take this as an attack at you; our opinions may differ, but you are fully entitled to have, and hold onto your own opinion. This post isn’t about getting you to change your mind; it’s just a call to those who may agree with me on the matter, who may want to do something proactive about the potential lift on the current fox hunting ban. x
Urban Decay’s original ‘Naked’ palette set off what appears to be a huge wave of similar, neutral-hued palettes being released by many other brands that then saw the niche in the market for dedicated palettes for such easily wearable shades. The Naked arm of the Urban Decay empire has since evolved into its own series, with multiple palettes containing a plethora of neutral, easy to wear shades.

The newest kid on the block is the ‘Naked Smoky’ palette, which is described as being “Packed with a dozen sultry, smoky neutrals — nine never-before-seen shades and three exclusives” and “loaded with ALL the essentials for the perfect neutral smoky eye”.

I’m a bit of a fan of a smoky eye, so this totally appeals to me… and I’m already making notes about which colour combinations I might like to try. I’ll be getting the palette shortly, so I’ll be sure to swatch them for you as soon as it gets here.

Naked Smoky (RRP £38) is available online at urbandecay.co.uk from 30th July.

It’s Pancake Day! But I’m on a bit of a mission to lose some
weight, tone up and generally be healthy, so I took to the internet to look for
ways that I could participate in the eating of pancakes, but in a slightly
healthier way.

In my quest, I found recipes that used almond flour instead
of regular flour for a less carb heavy solution; but I thought that the
calories in this may be too high for my personal consumption (as I’m watching
my calories as well as trying to eat cleanly), due to the fact that nuts in
general are quite calorific.

Then I had a eureka moment when I came across a recipe that
called for eggs, oats and bananas and wondered if I could omit the oats to make
it even less calorific and carb heavy! So I tried it, and it turns out that yes
I could. Now I’m not saying that these have the regular pancake texture – and when
cooking them they are quite fragile, so it’s better to make them smaller (but
more of them)… but they’re close enough, and with some honey and lemon on (I
stayed quite traditional) I think they’re rather yummy.

ground flaxseeds work well to hold the mixture together.

I stayed quite traditional with my honey and lemon toppings,

I think next time I might try some with strawberries and raspberries pureed in
the food processor with a little honey in.

Apologies for the pathetic one pancake in my final
photograph, in my excitement to get the others to the plate, I ended up
dropping them on the floor, and I only had enough mixture left to make this
feeble, lonely one more. I guess that’s another way to lower my calorie intake,
though?! ;-)

Speaking of calories, this mix (without toppings) works out to be around 300 calories (depending on the weight of banana you use) and I think would be enough for 2 people (based on 2 small to medium pancakes each), so around 150 calories per serving, excluding toppings.

This guide was meant to be my part 3 in my Luxury Christmas Gift Guide, but alas my scheduling failed and Christmas came and went, so I have adapted it for Valentine’s Day as I thought it a shame to go to waste! Obviously with it being luxury products, I’m not suggesting that you go out and purchase the most expensive gifts for somebody you’ve only just met… unless you’re rolling in the readies and can afford it, in which case go for it! ;-)

Searching for the perfect Valentine’s gift for your loved one can invariably lead to stress, headache, and panic (especially for the unprepared, last minute Larrys)… not to mention extremely painful feet and potential for mild assault from other keen, or spatially unaware shoppers if you’re braving the shops, rather than shopping online. Personally, I try to stick to buying online as much as I can in life, so as to avoid the physically painful part, at least.

Now I know there’s probably loads of Valentine’s guides floating around, but I firmly believe that you can never have too much inspiration if you’re truly stumped for things to buy – especially if you have to buy for somebody who may seemingly have everything, or somebody who appears to want nothing; and so I’ve compiled a couple of guides for you covering a whole host of fabulous looking ‘stuff and things’ in the hope that I can maybe inspire you on the perfect gift to buy for your Valentine.

This guide focuses on luxurious beauty products, fragrancing and sparkly shit (jewellery)… my favourite! It was always going to be seriously difficult to keep the amount of ‘stuff and things’ that I want… errrr I mean that would be lovely for you to purchase for your loved one to so few items – especially because I’m such a magpie who likes lots of things, and so I must add a serious disclaimer that this is by no means a frank, full and complete list of things that I desire. ;-)

So without further ado, here’s a whole heap of fabulousness that I’d personally love to own/receive. I could probably just call all my guides ‘Claire’s Wish Lists’ if I’m honest.

1. Charlotte Tilbury The Glamour Muse and 2. The Rebel Look Gift Boxes £165 each – These complete ‘get the look’ sets are right up my street. I love that you can select a ‘look’ that appeals to your general style, specific outfit, occasion, mood or even knickers (if you so wish) and then be beautifully presented with all the products needed to recreate it. I would probably weep a little with utter joy if any of these were presented to me, at any point, let alone on Valentine’s Day.

– I probably wouldn’t even be able to bring myself to tarnish those perfect white bristles enough to make full use of this with actual, coloured bronzer, and would probably be more likely to be found swiping it across my skin, cooing about how soft it feels instead. Still, it’s a fabulous looking brush and I’m guessing applies bronzer like a dream, for those who are bold enough to use it for the purpose it was made for.

4. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in L’Exhubérante, £26 and/or 5. Chanel Le Vernis Nail Lacquer in Pink Tonic 619, £18 – I always think it’s worth spending money where it makes a difference with makeup, and I think lipstick is one of the areas where you get better wear from higher end brands (mostly), and this gorgeous pink- hued Chanel lipstick is no exception. Plus, if you were to team it with with this perfect pink polish, not only would it look great, but it would totally have the wow factor for the recipient, in my opinion.

6. Dior 5 Couleurs Limited Edition Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Shock, £42 – I love pretty much all of the Dior eyeshadow palettes, they always have gorgeous sparkly colours that appeal to my inner (and outer) magpie, but aren’t too in your face shade wise, so are totally wearable at any time of year. This one suits Valentine's Day due to its plummy hues, and is pretty universally wearable due to the muted tones.

7. Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne 100ml, £82 – This is a heady, but fruity scent which I think suits Valentine’s Day perfectly. If I received this tomorrow, I would be over the moon! Then again, I’d be over the moon just receiving a card this year, probably. ;-)

I adore it, and I find it to be a fragrance suitable for pretty much any age… plus it’ll look great on the dressing table to boot. ;-)
I mean who wouldn’t want the gift of a pearl necklace this Valentine's? Especially a fizzy one; better get that looked at, mate. ;-)

Some photographs from 3 weeks upwards after.

I make no secret of my thought on ageing, in that I will do everything in my power to avoid that whole ‘looking old’ thing as time creeps on. I also make no secret of the fact that I’m a bit partial to botox, having had my first injections a few years ago; I admit it, I love the stuff and have had nothing but good experiences with it. I see it as a preventative measure as well as a curative one for the few lines/wrinkles I already have developing and visible when I frown/smile etc, so that they don’t further develop and become deep set, staying visible whilst I’m not frowning or smiling… which would give me a big reason to frown even more.

I should add that whilst I’ve had Botox a number of times before, I haven’t been a rigidly regular user of it. However now I’m heading towards my mid-thirties, I’m thinking that I should up my treatments as if this can prevent more invasive treatments later in life, then for me, it’s worth doing.

Dr Max Malik, owner of Elate Health is a highly trained doctor (who just happens to train other doctors too), specialising in facial aesthetics, with clinics on the prestigious Harley Street in London, and also in the Birmingham area, with more locations coming soon. This is a guy who can give you a brow lift under local (not general) anaesthetic, who can sculpt your face using non-invasive procedures and generally make you look like the best version of you with minimal interruption to your normal life – so less invasive treatments are always preferred, unless absolutely necessary. He’s a wizard at his art with over 20 years of experience in medicine; and, having seen some of his before and after images from previous clients I’m thoroughly confident in his skills to make dramatic and positive changes that look totally natural.

Before treatment - ignore my unkempt brows, I was trying to grow them out. Forced faces to show extent of movement.

So, when I was presented with the opportunity to visit Dr Max back in September, I quickly accepted and off I trotted to visit him at his Birmingham clinic to see what magic he could work. The clinic is a modern, clean environment and Dr Max has his consultations up quite a large amount of stairs – although I’m sure this could be worked on for those who have more limited mobility. Whilst in his care, I was injected across my forehead to give my brows some lift, something I felt worked extremely well and would be quick to have again, rather than jumping in with a full brow lift – at least until I felt I needed a bit of extra oomph. ;-) I was also injected in-between my brows to combat my Glabella frown lines, and around the area to rid me of crow’s feet that I was beginning to notice when I smiled. Something that, whilst not extreme was really starting to affect my confidence quite a lot, especially when I noticed them in photographs.

The treatment wasn’t overly painful, with fine needles being used to inject in precise locations, obviously this also depends on your sensitivity to needles and pain, but I felt it was totally bearable. It was also over very quickly, so if you do have an aversion to needles, at least it’s over with pretty quickly.

Around 10 days after treatment.

As usual with Botox, I started to see results after about 3-4 days, with my muscles slowly starting to freeze, I love this part – it’s great to see the movement decrease, and I found myself checking the mirror each day and pulling faces, to see how much I could move the areas that I’d had injected. Full results are to be seen up to 14 days after treatment, where you’d normally go back to your practitioner for them to check their work, correct any asymmetries, and top up Botox where needed. Unfortunately I was unable to get back to Max due to illness, so I didn’t have my top up… but I was still quite pleased with the results I had, feeling whilst I think a top up would have been beneficial to my end results, that I had definitely benefitted from the injections regardless of having not had the usual top up.

More from after treatment 4 weeks+ - the top right shows some of the lift of my brows, along with the forehead line reduction.

My apologies for the lack of after photographs of any close up or non grainy quality, these were due to my technical issues, however I hope you can see that I do look more rested in them, despite the quality and at times, some funny face pulling.

If you’re in, or available to get to any of his clinic locations, then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to you. More information on treatments, and Dr Max are available on his website, here.

There has been a delay in posting this (and a number of upcoming articles) due to both technical issues, and also having been through a sexual assault, which if you follow me on Twitter you'll have probably seen me tweeting about. Hoping that I have my mojo back now, and that technology starts to hate me slightly less. x

Christmas shopping can invariably lead to stress, headache, and panic (for the unprepared, last minute Larrys, like I am this year)… not to mention extremely painful feet and potential for mild assault from other keen shoppers if you’re braving the shops, rather than shopping online. Personally, I try to stick to buying online as much as I can, so as to avoid the physically painful part, at least.

Now I know there’s loads of gift guides floating around, but I firmly believe that you can never have too much inspiration if you’re truly stumped for things to buy – especially if like me, you have to buy both for the people who seemingly have everything, and also the people who actually want nothing (thanks dad… a jumper it is then, again); and so I’ve compiled a couple of guides for you covering a whole host of fabulous looking ‘stuff and things’ in the hope that I can maybe inspire you on the perfect gifts to buy for your nearest and dearest.

This guide focuses on luxurious and expensive products… my favourite. It was always going to be seriously difficult to keep the amount of ‘stuff and things’ that I <strike>want</strike>, errrr I mean that would be lovely for you to purchase for your loved ones to so few items – especially spanning so many categories such as gadgets, accessories, jewellery and more, and so I’ve split this particular guide into 3 posts for easier digestion!

And so without further ado, here’s a whole heap of fabulousness that I’d personally love to own/receive. I could probably have just called all these guides ‘Claire’s Wish Lists’ if I’m honest.

1. Alienware Area-51 Gaming PC £3,000 (or less, maybe) – If you’re anything like me, you put your computer through a lot of shit and expect it to deal with it all promptly, and without complaining. I actually have a top of the range gaming laptop, which doesn’t really do this at all, in fact it failed miserably on many counts – shame on you Samsung. So I think that any self-respecting fellow computer abuser would benefit greatly from a desktop system that could potentially put up with more being thrown at it, and be able to ‘man up’ through the tough times.

2. Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus & DJM 2000 Nexus Set £4,378 – Since being back in ‘clubber mode’ music has played an even larger part in my life, to the point that I rarely have the chance to catch up with any TV series that I enjoy as I’ve always got music on instead, errrk. Anyway, I’d pretty much do anything for this set up as this is the crème de la crème of DJ set ups; and just look how pretty they are – all the lovely lights… and there I go again with my magpie tendencies. Seriously though, this is a beast of a set up, as is reflected in the price; however if you have the money, then these would definitely be a present that wowed your recipient. Especially if it was me, ha.

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 £599 – I own the Note 3 and I love it, although I suffer with this expensive glitch within me that makes me feel like I NEED every new phone that comes out, ever. I don’t know what’s so addictive about getting a new phone, but I love it. And so I can’t wait for April when I can upgrade to this beauty… although I suspect that when the Galaxy S6 is released shortly after, I’ll want that too, and when the Note 5 comes out in September, I’ll also want that. Basically, I want the moon on a stick, and then some. I’m not even that materialistic as I put more value on relationships, memories and experiences… but that doesn’t stop me liking, and coveting lots of ‘stuff and things’ at the same time.

4. Caci Microlift ‘Personal Facial Toning System’ £350 – This claims to lift and tone the face and jawline, and reduce wrinkle depth by over 1/3. Well sign me up; I’m totally up for some of that action! I’d love to see how effective it is, and this is why it’s going straight on my wishlist.

5. Sqoom Skin Treatment Device £549 – This is something that caught my eye a couple of months ago due to the seemingly multitasking nature of it. The device is said to deep cleanse, massage, improve texture, wrinkles, acne and even skin conditions such as psoriasis, something that appeals to me on many levels as I’ve suffered with psoriasis for as long as I can remember, and I’m obviously not getting any younger, so the anti-aging claims also appeal to me greatly. I believe the gels that you can buy are what tackle each ‘problem’ rather than the device, but this is something I will actually be reviewing soon on here, so keep your eyes peeled for that one. Exciting, eh. ;-)

6. Philips Lumea Precision Plus (SC2006/11) IPL Hair Removal System £350 – Removing body hair is such a chore, right?! There has been an influx of at home laser/IPL devices in the last few years, giving us mere mortals the chance to lessen this chore, almost permanently (maintenance is needed as new follicles ‘wake up’ at different times) and save time in the future to boot (hurrah). I’ve heard nothing but good things from people who have used these devices, with time saved in getting ready and also things like no ingrown hairs, always being 'match fit' if you get my drift and suchlike. It’s miles cheaper than going to a salon, and can be done in the privacy of your own home, making it ultra-convenient too.

So just a handful of gadgets and electrical beauty products that could make a loved ones Christmas. Would any of these be on your wishlist? :-)

Part 3 coming soon...
1. Michael Kors Selma Large Satchel Bag £315 – This stunning bag is definitely on my ‘most wanted’ list this Christmas, but alas I fear it’ll be a present that I’ll have to purchase for myself at some point in the New Year instead. I make no secret of my love for the colour pink, after finally realising that it is indeed my favourite colour (as opposed to pink, or purple) after only 33 years on this earth. I don’t really do favourites, due to my indecisive nature, and tendencies to like EVERYTHING, and lots of everything at that.

2. Dolce & Gabanna DG4192 Sunglasses in Bordeaux £125 – Now I’d usually go for sunglasses that were a bit bigger in size (hides more of my face, you see – ha) but the fact that these are sparkly just lured me in. I am SO easily won over when it comes to this stuff. SOLD… to the magpie named Claire.

3. Prada PR08OS Oversized Square Framed Sunglasses in Tortoiseshell £215 – Now these are more the kind of size I would normally go for, and I’m also partial to a bit of animal print, so these subtle tortoiseshell glasses are totally my kind of thing. I love the gold accent on the arm too, the shiny pleases me greatly.

4. Mulberry Alexa Polished Buffalo Satchel £1,100 – Who doesn’t want to own a Mulberry bag? I mean there must be some people, but there can’t actually be that many people who don’t secretly covet one of these beauties. The Alexa bag is probably one of the most well-known bags, and rightly so as it’s bloody lovely. I’d have one in multiple colours, just to sit and gaze at, mostly.

5. Mulberry Clemmie Embellished Satin Clutch £1,200 – Now put your hands up if you wouldn’t like to own a sparkly Mulberry bag. Holy macaroni, I love it. I don’t even care that it probably wouldn’t even fit half of my shit in it. I need it, give it to me now. Please. Thanks.

6. Saint Laurent ‘Monogramme’ Glitter Clutch £710 – I don’t know about you, but I’ll always call this brand Yves Saint Laurent, I mean why drop the Yves but then keep it in the iconic logo? It’s madness if you ask me. Anyway, this is another sparkly clutch that will no doubt hold about 0.01% of my ‘essentials’ on a night out, and again I don’t even care. It’s probably another item that I’ll just sit gazing at, and possibly stroking at home. I might even put it on a shelf as a display piece, ha.

7. Marc Jacobs Luna Messenger Bag in Orange £405 – This bright messenger bag stuck out to me during my massive window shopping session due to its vibrant orange colour. I’m a huge fan of bright colour, and whilst I still love muted, neutral shades too, I do lean more towards the bright. Even in autumn and winter. I’m especially a fan of orange with pink, which is a good job really, since those are the colours I currently sport in my hair. ;-) This bag looks perfect for everyday use, and I think it could even fit a great deal of my ‘stuff’ in it too – bonus.

8. Michael Kors Jetset Travel Chain Flap Over Purse in Gold £145 – There is probably no point in me ever owning this gorgeous metallic purse, owing to my utterly rubbish luck when it comes to not losing them lately. However, it doesn’t stop me wanting it all the same. I’m not sure if it’s more of a yellow gold in reality, but on my screen it looks like a rose gold, which I think I’d probably prefer. Stunning.

9. Michael Kors Dylan Baguette-Bezel Chronograph Watch (MK5412) in Rose Gold £279 – I love Michael Kors watches, in fact I just seem to love Michael Kors full stop; but in particular I love the watches. This rose gold sparkly affair is definitely on my ‘need to own’ list, since I can never have too many Michael Kors watches, especially if they have extra added sparkle to boot.

10. Michael Kors Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (MK3359) £379 – Shut the front door, sparkle galore!! My magpie senses are on full alert for this watch (and the next couple also), as well they should be. Any watch that has this many crystals automatically gets put on my list of things I need, imagine all that sparkly goodness every time you checked the time?! I don’t think I’d ever be late again… ok; I might be but let’s not dwell on that part.

11. Michael Kors Kerry Gold Tone Pave Crystal Bracelet Watch (MK3360) £399 – This is the gold version of the previous watch, as obviously it’d be rude to have one without the other. I’m not one for favouritism; I’m not even one for favourites due to my indecisive nature – hence the length of these guides (wishlists, ha)!

12. Michael Kors Two Colour Zebra Print Bracelet Watch (MK3315) £279 – This watch combines my love of animal print with my love of sparkle. What’s not to love?! I want it, I need it… I know I can only wear one watch at a time, but I really don’t care. Can I make wearing two watches or more at once a ‘thing’? It should be when there’s this much Michael Kors goodness to be had.

I think it's quite obvious that I love Michael Kors, so sorry if it's a bit Kors heavy but I like what I like and I'm certain others would love to receive anything from these items too. :-)

Part 2 coming soon...

Christmas shopping can invariably lead to stress, headache, and panic (for the unprepared last minute Larrys, like I am this year)… not to mention extremely painful feet and the potential for mild assault from other keen shoppers if you’re braving the shops, rather than shopping online. Personally, I try to stick to buying online as much as I can, so as to avoid the physically painful part, at least.

Now I know there’s loads of gift guides floating around, but I firmly believe that you can never have too much inspiration if you’re truly stumped for things to buy – especially if like me, you have to buy both for the people who seemingly have everything, and also the people who actually want nothing (thanks dad… a jumper it is then, again); and so I’m compiling a few guides for you covering a whole host of fabulous looking ‘stuff and things’ in the hope that I can maybe inspire you on the perfect gifts to buy for your nearest and dearest.

This guide focuses on products to purchase to keep your loved ones nice and toasty in the ‘weather ridden’ coldness that we call winter. I mean who doesn’t want to be warm, right?! So without further ado, here’s a whole heap of fabulousness that I’d personally love to own/receive. I could probably have just called all these guides ‘Claire's Wish Lists’ if I’m honest.

1. Ted Baker Prata Zip Front Cape in Taupe £249 – I’ve got a massive thing about capes at the moment and this one is just so chic that I just had to include it in this guide. It’s pricey-ish, but to me this is more of an investment piece that would see somebody through many seasons, complementing many outfits for a variety of occasions.

2. Ted Baker Riza Leather Biker Jacket in Grape £399 – This is a more casual option, but I love it all the same. I’m a big fan of the colour, the gold accenting and the quilting on the shoulders, as I’m also very partial to quilting… preferably on a Chanel bag, that I own (I don’t own one though *sob*). Again I feel this is another investment piece that will quite easily see you through the years.

3. New Look Black Tartan Check Reversible Oversized Scarf £14.99 – I’m loving the tartan trend that we’re seeing this season, it makes me think I should have kept my tartan trousers from the 90’s, although they were seriously unfashionable until this season… so probably best that I didn’t. This scarf combines the fabulous red tartan print with one of my other favourite prints, dogtooth/houndstooth. I adore it. I would wear this all day, every day, possibly even in bed. Love it.

4. New Look Parisian Blue Check Hooded Blanket Wrap £22.99 – If a scarf just doesn’t cut it for you, then this gorgeous blanket wrap should do the trick. I love the pattern, the style and that is has a hood to boot. Perfect.

5. Ruby & Ed Husky & Coyote Faux Fur Hand Muff, £34.00 – I have wanted a hand muff for ages, as I just don’t seem to get on with gloves, spending time taking them off, putting them back on, then off again and then invariably losing one, or both. These hand muffs/mufflers seem to be the answer to my problem, since they just hand around your neck and you can insert/withdraw your hands as needed without any extra effort. I’ve just realised I’m a lazy so and so when it comes to my hand warming needs, and an idiot that loses things. Wonderful, ha.

6. Ruby & Ed Brit Candy Hood in Burgundy, £99 – How comfy and warm does this bugger look? This looks ideal for the cold weather we have to put up in this wonderful country during the winter months. Plus my theory is that it wouldn’t ruin your hair as much as a normal hat would, due to it’s looser fit. Bonus, right?!

7. AX Paris Aztec Multi Coloured Printed Cape £19.99 (down from £35) – Another cape, but this time with an Aztec print, which is equally as fabulous as the tartan, but slightly different styling. I’m mad on capes at the moment, can you tell? Plus, it’s in the sale so it means you save some money to boot… or are able to purchase more, which is the route I usually take. ;-)

8. Boohoo Emily Parka with Fur Hood £45 – I adore this coat! The fur hood and the fluffy fleecy lining look like a cuddle in a coat. Plus, I like the more casual style of this for every day wear, and especially cold days where thinner coats just wouldn’t cut it in the keeping warm stakes. Perfect, I want it.

9. Berghaus Women’s Dovenby Fleece Pullover £45 – For the sportier types, this fleece top from Berghaus may just fit the bill. I’m a sucker for pink, hence that’s the colour I have posted, but actually I’d be happy to own these in all the colours available. They’re perfect for active types who are able to drag themselves out into the cold weather to go running, or something equally as horrifying when they could lovely and warm, sat indoors. ;-)

10. Berghaus Women’s Ramche Hyper Hydrodown Jacket £230 – Again, another one for the sportier, more active types… although I’d totally still wear this, and just pretend I was one of those kinds of people, ha. This loooovely bright pink coat looks like it will keep you warm without weighing you down, and will make sure you’re seen if you’re out running in the dark too – health and safety, guys. :-P

So there we have just a very small selection from a handful of websites (I could have gone overboard and listed about a thousand products, but I held back) to give you some inspiration when it comes to purchasing gifts for those, like me who never seem to have enough warm clothes when it gets to winter. I think my issue is that I just like purchasing dresses to go out partying in so that I don’t get seen in the same dress in clubs too often, oh well. ;-)

You may or may not have noticed that I've been a bit of a party girl ever since becoming single last year, I have basically reverted back to type, back to how I was pre Mr Ex Beauty Scoop; and so I've decided that along with the usual beauty, fashion and lifestyle bits that I normally feature on here (and will continue to do so, even more now my internet seems stable again), that I'll also be writing about events and club nights I've been to, since they're such a large part of my life these days.

Posts that I write will be about the nights themselves, and also as 'What I Wore' fashion and beauty type features too.. so there'll still be a definite fashion and beauty element in there for you all. It recently occurred to me that I do my make-up for these nights out that I have each weekend, and you never get to see it... so I'll be showing you my favourite looks, must have products and tips/techniques for stay put make-up that will survive even the longest night out. :-)

I also have a larger article planned about my favourite events from this year so far, and events to look out for in the future in the pipeline (I'm just editing down a mass of photographs with a partially working laptop, which is taking some time and finalising the text), but this weekend I shall be raving my tush off at Cream's birthday (part 1) in Liverpool, so expect to see what I wore and my thoughts on the night very soon.

If you're fancying a night out there yourself, then get yourself over to Skiddle for a ticket as it's due to be a biiiig, brilliant night. I can't wait.
I’ve been a bit (ok, a lot) delayed in getting this written up and posted due to both illness and also technical issues as I actually had it done on September 9th, but better late than never, right?!

Let me finally introduce to you my new hair that I had 'done' at the Wella Studio in Manchester; a place I’ve been going to since I was about 16 years old (I've spoken about it before here). I’m actually that late in posting this that I’m due to go for my next colour appointment on Tuesday next week – oops, sorry about that. ;-)

Anyway, I still really wanted to post about it as I was over the moon with how bright they finally managed to get it, especially the orange. Before my appointment I had toyed with the idea of changing to peacocky colours (turquoise, blue and purple) at the ends due to a number of failed attempts to get the brightness of orange that I was looking for, but I decided to give it just one last shot… and I’m so glad I did.

Throughout the month since having it coloured, I have been complimented on my hair more than ever. I guess as it’s so noticeably bright, and with such a contrast of colours that it’s hard not to pay attention to it. I actually don’t mind though, I mean it’s always nice to receive a compliment... even though I still don’t know how to take them and usually get flustered before saying thanks and rushing off with a bright red face.

Sorry for the quality of these ones, but I wanted to show images under different lighting, although the top images are more colour accurate.

In case you wanted something similar colour wise (as I do get asked about this a lot via email) the shades/products that were used to get this result were as follows: For the pink they used Wella Special Mix 0/65 with Koleston Perfect and I believe 6% and the orange was Wella Magma 0/34 and 9%. The percentages are to do with how much lightening/lifting your hair would need, so don’t focus too much on those if you were to want a similar colour, just make sure you know the shade numbers for your hairdresser.

Also the technique is somewhere between dip dye and balayage as I wanted all the ends orange, but without a definite line showing, so they brought the orange tips to varying levels where it meets the pink to achieve this. It was done freehand and using foils to keep the colours from merging.

I’ll be sure to get any images from my appointment on Tuesday posted up a bit sooner, especially if there’s anything new to report on the colour front. ;-)

Do you like bright hair colours, or do you tend/prefer to stick to natural shades? x
So what do we think of Marc Jacobs models having not one single scrap of makeup on whilst on the runway at his spring/summer 2015 show at New York Fashion Week?

I love it, actual natural beauty (ok, they're models... but still) and a
focus on skincare rather than hiding 'flaws'. Brilliant.

Only moisturiser was used by makeup artist Francois Nars (the genius behind the NARS makeup brand). It must have been the easiest job he's ever been paid to do too. :-)
Does this give you more confidence to go out sans makeup?

Me having a treatment at Dr Rita Rakus' Clinic in London.

We've all got our body hangs ups... you know those parts of the body that you desperately try to cover, conceal, hide and generally prevent others from seeing, or noticing! I personally could quite easily tell you at least one thing that I didn't like about pretty much any part of my body that you named; and would definitely struggle to find something overly positive to say about pretty much any other part too.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has this eternal life struggle either; and whilst there may be greater issues going on in the world, when something makes you unhappy about yourself and you have to 'put up with it' every day, it does become a larger issue to you. To name just one of my many, many body hang ups, it would be my 'sorry for itself' state after my 6 stone weight loss. I'm talking about the slightly loose, somewhat flabby skin that covers areas such as my stomach, bingo wings, bottom... in fact; it would probably be quicker, and easier for me to list the places that weren't affected, ha. You get the idea.

However, I'm also a big advocate of changing the things that make you unhappy if you can... in all aspects of life; and so when I'm faced with treatments, products and procedures that can change, or at least improve things then I'm all for giving them a go. Why carry on suffering if you don't have to, right?! That's why I was extremely happy to have been invited recently to attend a demonstration of Pellefirm, a high tech, non-surgical skin tightening treatment that has only just hit UK shores, as I’m always interested in this kind of thing on a personal level as well as to be able to tell you guys about it too.

Now don’t think that this treatment is to help you lose weight, as it isn’t for this purpose at all. Nor is it a one stop ‘quick fix’ in an emergency ‘I might be seen naked/semi naked imminently’ panic, as a course of around 6 (depending on each client and their start and desired finish points) is recommended to see results.

It’s a treatment for those who have may have lost tone/tightness in their skin to help to tighten and smooth it out. This is skin that may have been stretched through weight gain, pregnancy and/or ageing that will not just ping back into place, no matter how much you exercise, or how healthily you eat. It's skin that would normally require surgical intervention to rectify, in the form of tummy tucks and other such skin reducing procedures.

Before & after images, and the Pelleve machine with Pellefirm handpiece from the Ellman website.

The claims by Ellman International, are that by raising the temperature of the skin through the use of a hand piece that is attached to the main Pelleve machine (which has multiple functions, I should add), delivering radiofrequencies into the skin and heating it to temperatures of around 45 degrees that this will in turn heat the dermis and sub dermis to a higher level and trigger collagen synthesis… which basically (as far as I understand it) causing the collagen to break down, and then reform, thus creating the skin tightening effect that occurs afterwards.

Whilst at the demonstrations (one in London at the clinic of Dr Rita Rakus, and another in Birmingham with Dr Hugo and Dr James Kitchen of the Stratford Dermatherapy Clinic taking charge) I was also lucky enough to get the chance to trial the procedure as their case study, so I got to experience it first-hand.

Me having the treatment in Birmingham with Dr James Kitchen from the Stratford Dermatherapy Clinic.

The treatment itself wasn’t painful, although I was told that I appeared to deal with the heat exceptionally well (the heat was increased gradually, which I think helped a lot), and I didn’t experience a great deal of reddening of the skin either which is something that can happen during/afterwards, (but causes no ill effects and does disappear relatively quickly too, should it occur to you), so I was all good with that too. The treatment lasts around 40 minutes per area, depending on the size of the area and also how long it takes your skin to reach the optimum temperature too.

Results aren’t immediate either, as mentioned… although on my short trial so far, I did notice a slight change in the appearance of my skin, so I’m hopeful that with further sessions (something I’m also told I can continue with), will increase and become more noticeable – expect further updates in due course.

Is this something that you’d try out? Do you have many body hang ups?
I have literally *just* received this information in my inbox, and I couldn't wait to hop-foot it over to you to tell you all about it. My magpie senses are going mad already for this fantastic, sparkling collection from Models Own, due to be released on 19th September 2014.

Not only do these polishes look totally blingtastic, but they form part of Models Own's first ever 'luxe' collection - Diamond Luxe, and who doesn't like diamonds, right?!

This ten-strong shade of polishes all contain real, actual, bonafide, genuine diamond dust. Now I don't know about you, but that's definitely a type of dust that I can get down with! The diamond dust is said to give a 'completely unique, multi-dimensional super-sparkly finish'... well that's me sold already. ;-)

But wait, there's more! Apparently this level of sparkle and bling doesn't come at the cost of having to put up with rough nails that grab onto on any old piece of fluff, like a child clinging to their favourite comfort blanket.

Now I don't know about you, but even with layers of top coat, glittery sparkly nails (other than gel based) never, ever go smooth for me... which ends up giving your beautiful sparkly manicure a more 'dipped in fluff that just happened to contain some glitter' look about it.

Another bonus is that they say these are both quick drying, AND long lasting - 2 of my favourite things to put together when considering the chore of applying nail polish, because let's face it, it looks great, but does anybody actually enjoy applying nail polish? Especially if you're a clumsy oaf like me, that ruins it within minutes. Seconds even, sometimes!

Each polish will retail at £4.99, which is a total bargain in my opinion, and will be available from www.modelsownit.com from 19th September, UK Models Own Bottleshops from the 20th September and Superdrug stores nationwide on 24th September 2014.

Holy yes!! I need them all in my life... right now. Are you loving or leaving this collection and are any colours screaming out 'own me' to you straight away?

P.S, I'll post again when I have some in my hands to show you!
I recently posted about Sam and Nic Chapman's upcoming Real Techniques UK tour that's due to start, and finish next week and have since been given the opportunity to interview the girls ahead of the Manchester leg of their tour. So, I thought I'd find out if you guys had any burning questions that you'd like me to ask them - especially if you can't make it to any of the locations, or there's not one close enough to you.
If you do have a question that you'd like me to try and have answered for you then please leave it in the comments box below and I'll get through as many of them as I can, in the time that I get. x
Ok, whilst games aren't what I'd normally talk about on here (although I really should as I do love a bit of gaming here and there with The Sims, and other simulation games), I thought this offer was too good not to pass on the information; especially as these games back in the day would have cost you hundreds of pounds to purchase (that I happily paid back in the day too)!

The offer is ending imminently (tomorrow 31st July 2014), so I'll keep this post short and sweet and just paste in what they say on their information page!
