Jonathan Ward London - Some News!

Now, you may already know how much I love Jonathan Ward candles, as I've posted about them a couple of times on here, so you'll also understand my excitement at the following pieces of news!

Firstly, Jonathan has introduced a new reed diffuser range that is available in NINE of his most popular fragrances which I am so SO excited about as it's not always convenient to light a candle, for instance, if you're not going to be home for long enough.

However, a reed diffuser can be safely left out to fragrance the room all the time, allowing you to enjoy beautiful JW scents such as Josephine's Rose, Mombasa, Kiss in Rio, Lost in El Salvador, Nightingale's Jasmine, Dance in Summer Rain, Velvet Moss Rose, Santissima Amalfi, Kartushya and Gypsy, any time you like.

First to launch will be Nightingale's Jasmine, priced at £32 for 250mls of alcohol free oil, which should last 2-3 months, and so is actually fantastic value for money, when you consider it would only cost about £2.60 per week.

Now on to the next bit of news, which is great for those of you who may have had difficulties in getting hold of JW candles because you couldn't smell them first hand, because now you'll be able to, since Jonathan Ward products are going to be stocked in leading House of Fraser stores from March 2012. Chistmas Gift Guide: Jonathan Ward Candle - The Gypsy (From The Russia Collection)!

I love a good candle, especially through the dark and cold winter months where all I ever want to do is snuggle down with a duvet with a beautiful candle burning in the background (well, we don't have a log fire so candle fire is the best we can do)!

This candle by Jonathan Ward, London fits the bill perfectly as it looks stunning (that red and gold packaging is screaming Christmas to me - in a VERY classy way) and smells good enough to wear as a personal fragrance.

The Jonathan Ward website says:

A deeply sensual Gypsy inspired floral with notes of Carnation, Sandalwood, Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Patchouli, Amber, Cedarwood.

Housed in a Ruby red collectable glass and complete with a signature printed box.

Ingredients:

Amber, Cedar Wood, Jasmine, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Carnation, Ylang Ylang

The scent of this candle is stunning, and has a very unique scent to it - I really don't think that there's anything I can compare it to, but I will say that it has the perfect mix of floral and warmer notes to my nose,and they keep it from being too seasonal - I'd happily burn this candle at any time of the year.

As expected, the scent is also very strong and you get a great scent throw from the candle in the room without it even being lit, I love this as it's not always practical to burn a candle if you're not going to be in long enough to appreciate it, so this still gives you some enjoyment from the candle.

Even Chloe wanted to smell it.

I'm never disappointed with Jonathan Ward candles, I know that what I am getting is a completely luxurious and well made candle that smells divine, and will burn cleanly and evenly, and for a decent amount of time too. I really do feel that you get what you pay for with a JW Candle, and actually, when I have broken it down before they don't work out that expensive if you think of how much it costs per hour or use.

For instance, this candle is available in both medium and large sizes at £25 and £35 respectively and the medium candle has a 30 hour burn time which equates to 83p per hour whilst the large burns for 45 hours which equates to about 78p per hour- not that much in the grand scheme of things, it's not even minimum wage! In fact, one hours burning cost would probably just about buy you a bottle of water which may last about the same amount of time, or less.

I'm pretty sure there are many others like myself, who at Christmas would love the treat of a very special and very posh candle, something they may not buy themselves as it is quite a luxury item, but still very affordable in gifting terms, I feel.

Jonathan Ward London - Santissima Amalfi Candle!

In yesterday’s post I received quite possibly one of the most beautifully scented and luxurious candles, ever. It’s the new Limited Edition ‘Santissima Amalfi’ candle from Jonathan Ward, London (their first EVER Limited Edition, no less!) and it is a complete delight.

"Our limited edition Santissima Amalfi scented candle is hand-poured in a collectable, white, hand-blown crystal jar from Parma, Italy.

A platform of Arabian Myrrh, Frankincense and Bourbon Vetiver intermingle to allow fresh Italian Pomodoro and Rose de Mai to blend creating a unique scent of depth and complexity.

A truly unique candle, perfect for summer."

Ingredients:

Frankincense, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Arabian Myrrh, Italian Tomato, Black Pepper Malabar, Oud, Rose de Mai, Bourbon Vetiver

Upon opening the box, I was immediately hit with the stunning scent and let me tell you now, it really is divine. The scent actually filled the room very quickly, without the candle even being lit.

It’s quite difficult to describe the fragrance (harder than I first expected, actually) as it has quite a clean, fresh smell to it but it’s also very complex as there are times where I feel it smells quite zesty, and at others I feel like it’s more of a spicy scent. It’s very much a unisex fragrance; the reason I say this is because Mr Beauty Scoop said it smells 'a bit like perfume' and I thought it to be a bit more like an aftershave – either way, it’s lovely.

It actually seemed like a shame to light the candle, but it would also be a waste not to as that is what it is made for, after all. Two wicks ensure an even burn and also make the fragrance throw much more intense to my nose.

It’s not the cheapest candle you’ll ever buy at £35, but don’t let that put you off as you get 45 hours of pure pleasure with this baby, which equates to about 77p per hour – a bargain if you think of it like that, no? Plus it’s a nice way to treat yourself (or be treated) without resorting to buying a big bar of chocolate, which at roughly £1, would last about 5 minutes and take at least 5 hours of (hard)exercise to work it off to boot.

Also, to get the best from your candle, there’s a very useful guide on the bottom of the candle (shown below) to help you... in fact, recently Jonathan Ward (on Twitter) referred to them as candle laws! So ignore them at your own risk! ;-)

Once you have enjoyed your candle, you will be left with the hand-blown crystal jar so I decided to paste below what the JW website suggests for further use and also the cleaning of the jar!

"We suggest using the crystal jar as a great cappuccino glass. It can also be used a great juice glass. To remove all traces of wax and prepare for using as a drinking vessel, you should follow the simple instructions below:

• fill jar with boiling water and washing up liquid
• leave for 5-6 hours
• all wax should solidify and be easily disposed of, then the jar can be washed out as normal and dried."
