Models Own Diamond Luxe Nail Polish Collection!

L-R: Princess Pink, Trillion Taupe, Heart Red, Pear Purple, Marquise Maroon, Carat Coral, Asscher Blue, Radiant Pink, Emerald Green, Oval Plum.
I have literally *just* received this information in my inbox, and I couldn't wait to hop-foot it over to you to tell you all about it. My magpie senses are going mad already for this fantastic, sparkling collection from Models Own, due to be released on 19th September 2014.

Not only do these polishes look totally blingtastic, but they form part of Models Own's first ever 'luxe' collection - Diamond Luxe, and who doesn't like diamonds, right?!

This ten-strong shade of polishes all contain real, actual, bonafide, genuine diamond dust. Now I don't know about you, but that's definitely a type of dust that I can get down with! The diamond dust is said to give a 'completely unique, multi-dimensional super-sparkly finish'... well that's me sold already. ;-)

But wait, there's more! Apparently this level of sparkle and bling doesn't come at the cost of having to put up with rough nails that grab onto on any old piece of fluff, like a child clinging to their favourite comfort blanket.

Now I don't know about you, but even with layers of top coat, glittery sparkly nails (other than gel based) never, ever go smooth for me... which ends up giving your beautiful sparkly manicure a more 'dipped in fluff that just happened to contain some glitter' look about it.

Another bonus is that they say these are both quick drying, AND long lasting - 2 of my favourite things to put together when considering the chore of applying nail polish, because let's face it, it looks great, but does anybody actually enjoy applying nail polish? Especially if you're a clumsy oaf like me, that ruins it within minutes. Seconds even, sometimes!

Each polish will retail at £4.99, which is a total bargain in my opinion, and will be available from www.modelsownit.com from 19th September, UK Models Own Bottleshops from the 20th September and Superdrug stores nationwide on 24th September 2014.

Holy yes!! I need them all in my life... right now. Are you loving or leaving this collection and are any colours screaming out 'own me' to you straight away?

P.S, I'll post again when I have some in my hands to show you!

Models Own Collections - Velvet Goth & Fireworks!

Well it has been known in the past for me to be a bit of a magpie where nail polish anything is concerned. I do love a bit of sparkle and shine, so when I saw these images in my email inbox, a little large part inside of me did a whoop and a cheer. I absolutely bloody love the look of these collections, they're right up my street and perfect for the (dare I say it) upcoming party season, since it will be here before we know it. I'm going to miss the sunny days we've had, it has to be said.

Anyway, what'dya think, are you digging the bling, or do you prefer a plainer finish? x

Models Own 'Show Stopper' Nail Polish, Exclusive for Clothes Show Live 2012.

There’s good news for all you lovers of sparkly nail polish who are heading to the Clothes Show Live this year (7th-11th December, Birmingham NEC), as Models Own have created this exclusive polish, aptly named 'Show Stopper' that will only be available to buy from their stand (PK116) at the show, for £5.

The polish is inspired by this year's Clothes Show Live ambassador, Daisy Lowe and is a stunning multi-tonal, holographic fine glitter containing 'gorgeous twinkling greys, blues, silver and purples'. I received one in the post this morning, and will get swatches up for you ASAP!

Are you going to the show, and if so, will you be purchasing this lovely polish?

Models Own Wonderland Collection!

How amazing does this collection look? I need them all! For me, Models Own are truly on form with the collections they've been releasing lately. I find their nail polish to be easy to apply and generally quite long lasting too - plus they're super affordable, which is always a bonus!

This description is from their Facebook page:

"Five magical polishes ranging in gradients of subtle to dense glitter for a sophisticated grown-up glimmer. For a manicured finish use the iridescent shades to give an accent of glitter, or be brave and layer up the polish until it's opaque! Each polish gives a different nail finish from frosty to full on snowstorm:

  • Jack Frost, a wash of iridescent soft sparkle in a translucent cloudy base;
  • Snowflake, a mesmerising transparent mix of white gold flakes;
  • Southern Lights, an opaque holographic multi-tonal glitter in a lilac finish;
  • Northern Lights, a fine holographic multi-tonal glitter in a pink finish;
  • Blizzard, a dense mix of hand cut glitters to give a silver day-night sparkle!"

They're apparently available in Boots stores and the Models Own Bottleshop (Westfield, London) right now, but I'm trying to get more details as to if it will be available online any time soon too.

What do you think, are these calling to you?

Models Own & Hed Kandi Nail Polish Collection!

L-R Beach Party, Balearic Cool, Disco Heaven, Ibiza Mix, Hedonist
Hed Kandi are an iconic clubbing brand, and I've had many amazing nights at Hed Kandi events, especially those in Ibiza in the summers that I worked out there - good times. This year is their 10th year on the party island of Ibiza (I can't believe time has flown so quickly, it doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago that I was partying every night out there) and to celebrate, they've teamed up with Models Own to create a fabulous looking collection inspired by Ibiza, the ultimate party location.

Beach Party - a sunny, bright and intoxicating polish inspired by the world famous sunsets on the White Isle;
Balearic Cool, a crystal aquamarine blue inspired by the waters of Formentera;
Disco Heaven, a glittery, gold disco bomb;
Ibiza Mix, a dense multi-coloured day-night sparkle;
Hedonist, a no inhibition hot neon coral.

I don't know about you, but Disco Heaven, Ibiza Mix and Hedonist are all calling out to me now I've seen the promo image. Talking of images, I absolutely LOVE Hed Kandi imagery, it's so summery and really eye catching, don't you think?

Anyway, these are available from Boots stores, nationwide for just a fiver each. Whaddya think?

Models Own Launch Their First Retail 'Bottle' Store!

Ever wished you could go inside a bottle of nail polish? No me neither, but if you're a polish fiend like myself then you might find yourself doing just that in April 2012, when Models Own launch their new Nail Polish Bottle Shop at Westfield, London.

I like the idea, it's quirky and different and shows a bit of creativity, I'll be interested to see how they work it and might even take the time to pop down, should I find myself anywhere near there.

What do you think, good idea or not?

Nails Inc Magnetic Nail Polish - Houses Of Parliament!

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few months, you will have no doubt heard about the new nail craze, magnetic nail polish. I've seen a few brands doing these polishes now (and have more to show you in the near future) but today I'm showing you Nails Inc's offering in Houses of Parliament, a gorgeous purple that I have fallen in love with.

The polish bottle directs you to apply just one coat of polish (but a fairly generous layer of it) and immediately hold the magnetic lid against the cuticle above the nail, doing one nail at a time and taking care not to touch the nail with the magnet (something I've done one more than one occasion, whoops!) and then wait for about 10-15 seconds before removing the magnet.

I followed the instructions for application, and whilst it is a bit trickier than applying a normal polish, I actually got very good results, even on my first attempts... I actually gasped a little when I saw how stunning the end result was!
Little finger has Models Own's Beetlejuice Collection in Aqua Violet!

The magnetic particles get drawn towards the magnet and give the effect that you can see on the nail in the process - I shan't go into the scientific reasoning behind it, but the result really is spectacular, it almost appears holographic in some areas - prepare to get compliments and questions about your nails when wearing this kind of polish as they really do demand attention!

Now, because you put one thick coat on, you need to be prepared to wait much longer for your polish to dry than usual (I have no idea if Seche Vite will get on well with this polish, it is something I will try next time though), you also need to be much more precise so that your edges look sharp - so don't do what I did and apply it on a moving, wobbly train as you end up with the wobbly cuticle lines that you can see on my swatches (apologies for that) and also multiple failed attempts where the magnet touched the polish!

The polish lasts fairly well, considering it is a one coater - I got the tipwear that you can see after about 3 or 4 days, and that isn't too bad when you consider I had one drunken night out (all night of fun and frolics), travel back which included carrying lots of bags and also a lot of typing at my computer too!
My mum and both my aunties have been coveting my magnetic nail polish ever since they saw me wearing it, bare in mind that they are all above the age of 60 (the oldest being 76!). I actually ended up giving them all magnetic manicures that they were over the moon with, which shows that this is a trend that anybody of any age can pull off - I have bought them a Nails Inc magnetic polish each as part of their Christmas present so they can recreate the look at their leisure!

As a quick note before I end; I have a feeling that a lot of the brands that are offering this kind of polish are more or less the same product as the colours are generally the same kind of shades, and the bottles, well they seem to be exactly the same but with different branding.

When you consider that these polishes range from £6 (17 and FashionistA) to about £14 (Nails Inc), that's a huge difference in price to pay for a name... luckily I managed to get my Nails Inc polishes  (purple, silver and gold) from Buyapowa for the bargain price of £7 each! They seem to be making reappearances on Buyapowa, so it might be worth keeping your eye on the site, just in case!

Have you used a magnetic polish yet? What do you think of the effect? x

Models Own - Beetlejuice Polish Collection!

It's got to be said, I am LOVING the look of this upcoming collection from Models Own, especially the centre 3. Actually, they remind me very slightly of the Ozotic Pro Multi-Chromatic Polishes that I have been majorly lusting over for a long time now (shown below)!

Picture courtesy of Vampy Varnish (who also shows swatches of the polish via the link)!

These should be available in November, and whilst I'm not one for wishing my life away, I really want it to hurry up as I don't think I can wait that long, ha! What do you think?

Models Own 'Smash Ups' Crackle Style Polishes!

Never let it be said that Models Own rest on their laurels, especially when they team up with WAH Nails to create extra special products for us! I received an email today that excited me very much, and will hopefully have the same effect on you guys too... especially if you’re a fan of the increasingly popular crackle polishes.

Models Own & WAH Nails have created ‘Smash Ups’ – crackle colours in a selection of vivid colours that look perfect for the summer. Now I know crackle-style polishes are popping up everywhere and now in different colours too (think China Glaze/OPI etc), but a lot of these Models Own shades look so bright that I do think they are still quite unique, even with the fair amount of colours already available.
I love the bright, vibrant hues and really can’t wait to get my hands on these to try them out – what do you think of them? Are any catching your eye?

Available from April, priced rather competitively at £6 with selected shades available at Boots, and of course available at ModelsOwnIt.com.

Swatched: Models Own Black Swirl (Chanel Black Pearl Dupe?)!

This is another of the Models own spring/summer collection, Black Swirl... I think that this is (quite obviously) another cheeky name twist on yet another Chanel nail polish (Black Pearl) and some have described it as a dupe for it; however all the swatches I’ve seen of Black Pearl seem to show it having a tinge of teal/green whereas Black Swirl does not... so no, it's not really a dupe but still a lovely colour in its own right.

The swatches mostly show 4 coats, apart from the first (above) which shows 3 and seems to have a lot more brush strokes, hence why I added another which seems to have helped; I thought it should still be shown though.

The polish is actually a lot sheerer than I thought it would be, and I think even without the brush strokes I would have gone for the 4 coats, possibly even 5... but this dried fairly quickly so it didn’t really add much time onto the application.

I really quite like the colour, it’s quite dark and glossy at a glance but when you look closer you get to see the light reflecting off it to show more of a darn gun metal grey rather than a black.

What do you think? Do you like it?

Models Own Pink Fever (Spring/Summer 2011) Swatches!

This polish is one of the Models Own shades for Spring/Summer and I’m yet again really very impressed with it overall. I hope you like the swatches, please excuse the application etc!

I’ve been wearing this polish for a few days now and there’s no chipping or signs of wear – this is fabulous for any polish in my book, but even more so because this polish only costs £5 (or less if you take up the multi purchase offer on the Models Own website where you get money off if you buy more than 3 polishes).

Flash:
 Daylamp (No Flash):
  Daylight:

It also applies very well and dries in a reasonable time, which is very important to me as I’m quite rubbish at waiting for my nails to try – patience is not my forte.

Daylamp (No Flash) - I showed this because it shows a lot more of the purple tones:

 Daylight:

I love the colour, it really is stunning; in some lights it looks a very vibrant pink/fuchsia but in others you see the violet/lilac that runs through it which in turn keeps me from getting bored with it.

Like it?

Models Own Spring/Summer 2011 Nail Colours!

L-R - Concrete Mixer, Orange Sherbet, Bloo Boo, Black Swirl, Pink Fever

This is just a quick post for today as it’s my mum’s birthday, so I’ll be spending the day with her but I just wanted to give you a quick look at the new Models Own Spring/Summer 2011 nail colours. This collection is very diverse, I’m sure there’s something to suit most people in there with a nude, a greige, a pastel, a pink, what looks to be quite a neon orange (shimmer?) and even a very dark metallic grey! I've had to put the Nyla Nude and Utopia (shown L-R) pictures below as the images I've got are not as hi-res as the others and looked odd when I merged them; you get the idea nonetheless though.
I’ll be swatching a few of them for you in the next week as I’ve just received them in the post. The colours I have are the ones that stood out to me most from the collection (apart from the Orange Sherbet), and those are: Pink Fever (love the look of this already), Black Swirl and Concrete Mixer so I’ll get them up for you asap! What do you think about them so far?

These will be available for £5 each (as you’d expect with Models Own) from the usual outlets... although Nyla Nude will only be available at River Island, and Orange Sherbet only available online.

Swatched: Models Own - Black & Green Sparkle & Black & Gold Sparkle!

I recently did swatches of my Models Own glitter/sparkle eye shadows - well now I have 2 more to show you; this time it’s black with green sparkle and black with gold sparkle. I love dark colours and a bit of sparkle, so was attracted to these pretty instantly. In the Models Own Glitter & Sparkle there are a total of 12 colours available on the website and I could easily see myself owning at least 10 of them (magpie that I am) - especially as they're just £5 each, and even less if you buy multiples from the Models Own website!

Application was a bit more difficult than I am used to if I am honest as the powder and glitter don’t really work together when trying to get a nice finish as the glitter can tend to clump in one area rather than go on evenly. This isn’t a deal breaker as the finished effect is rather lovely; it just means that you need to spend a bit more time applying it very carefully! There is also quite a lot of fall-down, which is to be expected really, as it's a powder so make sure you protect your base, or do it after applying the powder.

I would definitely say to use a primer when using these so that the shadow stays put – because the loose particles could get displaced more easily than usual. Again, it’s no deal breaker as I generally always wear primer as it gives a better, longer-lasting result and doesn’t cost the earth to buy.

The pictures have been done with and without flash, and I’ll indicate which is which as I place them on. Also the thin line is where I've applied it went - to see how it applied and the effect it gave after doing so; it wasn't really any easier to apply this way and I'll let you decide how successful the effect was.

Swatched: Models Own - Silver With Silver Sparkle & Grey With Silver Sparkle!

I love eye shadows – especially those that are sparkly, shimmery or metallic, so it’s no surprise that I bought these when I saw them on sale recently. I’m a total magpie and was instantly drawn to the aforementioned elements of them and couldn’t wait to try them out.

I love them both, however I was surprised with how the ‘silver with silver sparkle’ applied as I expected more of a solid silver colour, but it turned out to be quite a sheer sparkly silver which is actually quite nice (although takes a bit more work to apply, I found); so thought I’d swatch them so you guys could see for yourselves.

I’ve tried to take pictures from different angles and against different backgrounds (in the pots) so that you could see how the light reflects off them.

The products last well once applied, just be aware that as these are powder shadows AND glitzy that you may want to take precautions to either preserve your already applied foundation/powder or do it after you have used these on your eyes as they do have the tendency to go everywhere. I also recommend either quite a sturdy eye shadow brush or even a foam one so it controls where the powder goes when you apply it.

Models Own posted this almost a year ago on their blog with instructions on how to ‘get the look’ (shown below) but I feel that these are still bang on the money for this season, especially over the festive period.

Available here (click) on the Models Own website at just a fiver each (or less if you buy more)!
