Holiday Hair Colour Dilemma!

As you may know, I currently have my hair coloured in red/purple tones... I’m loving these kinds of colours in my hair, but am slightly panicking about how it will fare when I go to Egypt in about 5 weeks both in terms of fading in the sun and also leaking when in the pool or the sea.

I currently have Wella Koleston Perfect and Colour Touch products in my hair (both semi permanent, salon colours) which last great usually, but do have leakage in water when washing etc so I’m a little bit worried about this happening whilst I’m swimming. I’ve had red in my hair before, but never at a time when I’ve been going on holiday so this has got me stumped!
Anyway, I’m left with a few choices... 1. Take whatever happens on the chin and just have fun, 2. Have permanent colours put in my hair next time, so there may be less of a chance of the product leaking off my hair or 3. Go for a different colour that’s not as heavy in terms of upkeep whilst away!

I’m keeping my eye on Groupon and Wahanda for any good hairdressing deals but honestly, I need to decide what to do when the time comes more than anything; so I am calling on you, my fabulous readers to see what you would do?

  1. Permanent still leak, mine is perm and boy howdy do I have colour leakage. Mind you it's also bright red so that might be why lol.

  2. I never seemed to have much leakage when I had permanent colour in last time I was red - although that was Wella Magma so that could be why (as it works differently to normal dyes, so they say)! Huge dilemma, I don't want a pinky trail following me around the pool and all over my lounger/towels lol! x

    1. Hi, yep I have wella shade 55/65 as my main and have recently been having their 0/65 shade worked through it (the latter being slightly more pinky than purple). They're salon shades - are you thinking about having it done in a salon? If you need further info please just ask.x

  4. I love the colour of you hair! its really pretty and eye-catching, i was looking for a similar colour myself, incidentally i was lucky enough to get a groupon for a full head of colour and finish so i was looking around for colours and decided on the 'roxy' trend colour on the wella website, unfortunately they dont say which colours they use for it and there doesn't seem to be anyone i can email to ask :(

    1. Thanks so much, glad you like it. :-)

If they use wella colours then you'd need 55/65 and then 0/65 as a highlight colour so you get the overall purple/pink shade that you can see above. If they don't use wella shades, then I'm sure they'd still know what the shades relate to, and could get some idea of what colour you require. If in doubt, I'd stress that you want a vibrant shade using pink and purple tones. x

  5. The problem isnt leaking with perminant dye, After 1 or 2 washes that stops. (im 22 and have been dying my hair "Rhianna red" since i was 14) The problem with red hair is that add lots of sun to it and you end up with Rose wine coloured hair =/ Im a in a similar dilemma as im off to Majorca in may and dont want the sun to strip the colour out of my hair. So im thinking in gonna go brown (gulp!) with high/low lights and let the sun do the rest.

  9. Kirsti - My natural base is about a 5 or 6 and I found that the hair colour to be quite vibrant on that, it needed no pre-lightening, unlke the dyed mid-lengths and ends. x

Anon - I think you'll need to have it lightened first, if you want a more vibrant shade. Is your hair dyed already, or is black your natural shade? x

So sorry for my delay, m'dears, I've been fixing my computer.

FIRSTLY, YOURS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BASICALLY, BUT I AM TIRED OF CRAPPY BOX DYE, SECOND I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT KOLESTON WAS PERMANENT, NOT SEMI? CAN YOU OFFER ANY DETAILED ADVICE. I AM LOOKING TO USE WELLA SO FINDING YOUR BLOG IS A GREAT BIT OF LUCK.
